9:00am-11:45am CST- Theta Music Engagement for Individuals in treatment for Opioid Use Disorder
Presented by Caitlin Krater, MS, MT-BC
3 CMTEs

Opioid use disorder (OUD) is a complex, chronic condition that affects both the brain and behavior.
Prolonged opioid use can lead to significant alterations in the brain’s reward and pleasure pathways,
resulting in neuroadaptation that perpetuates addiction and hinders an individual’s ability to experience
pleasure from natural rewards. In this session, attendees will learn how research combined with practice
knowledge was used to develop a clinical intervention to target dysregulation individuals with OUD.
The presenter will illustrate the process by describing the development of theory-based music protocol
designed to reduce drug craving in individuals in medical treatment for opioid use disorder. Clinicians
do not need to work with this population to gain values from this presentation. Presenter will lead an
experiential using the protocol and discussion will follow.
 Participants will identify at least one way to integrate research into their practice (V A1,2,6)
 Participants will learn at least one way to better evaluate their clinical work (IV A1,2)
 Participants will learn at least one technique or resource to aid in treatment planning (D
