MATADOC grand rounds (intro and background)

Norton Audubon Hospital, Louisville, KY

19 May

9 am – 11 am

Free and open to students and clinicians

This 3 day training will prepare participants to use the Music Therapy Assessment Tool for Awareness in Disorders of Consciousness (MATADOC) in clinical settings.

The MATADOC provides a rigorous assessment and evaluation system for music therapists working with populations whose awareness is unknown due to profound brain damage. It is clinically derived but research driven, having been developed and researched with adult populations with disorders of consciousness (DOC). The MATADOC has been shown through research to be valid and reliable for use with adult populations with DOC.

Training includes a theoretical background to disorders of consciousness, implementing a music therapy protocol for assessment of people with DOC and tools for scoring the MATADOC.

This course is intended for music therapists who are working with populations with profound brain damage including advanced stage Alzheimer’s Dementia, advanced stage neurological illness (Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington’s Disease), and for people with profound and multiple developmental disabilities. This first level training can be followed by competency development offered through on line supervision of an applicant’s portfolio of clinical work in which the MATADOC is applied.

This event will provide 21 CMTEs for board certified music therapists.
Registration fee is $375, and includes all training fees, materials, lunch, and snacks for the three days.
